Common Women's Health Issues
Here, we have rounded up the most common health concerns for women, and added some things that can help.
Do you suffer from moods swings, low mood and anxiety? If so, you may wish to consider taking Agnus Castus to help balance your hormones if your symptoms are related to your periods. You can also use a variety of herbal supplements to help with anxiety such as Rhodiola and Avena Satvia. You can also try calming remedies such as Chamomile, Lavender and mood lifting Bergamot.
If you are suffering from symptoms of depression, you may wish to see a doctor and seek help. You can take St. Johns Wort for depression upon recommendation, but DO NOT take it if you are taking any prescribed medication as it may have serious adverse side affects, we recommend seeking professional advice.
Menopause usually occurs from around the age of 45, when periods stop as your ovaries cease to produce eggs - however it can also start later or earlier depending on personal circumstances (such as hysterectomy). This can bring on many hormone changes in the body which can cause symptoms such as mood swings, hot flushes, sleeplessness, vaginal dryness, and memory issues. There are a range of things you can try to relieve these symptoms such as:
Hot Flushes - sage, red clover, black cohosh, phyto -estrogens (which can be found in a range of foods or taken in a supplement form), wild yam cream
Low mood/anxiety - Rhodiola, Avena Satvia
Sleep - 5-HTP (Tryptophan), Magnesium, Valerian, Rescue Remedy - also see our sleep page
Vaginal dryness - lubricants/gels and creams to re-hydrate
At Well Natural, we provide a wide range of women's health guides and supplement complexes specifically for women. Please ask in store. If you wish to find out more about HRT or how to prevent Osteoporosis, please consult your GP.
Common Vaginal Infections/Disturbances
It is a tough job maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria in the vagina. If you have recently had an issue such as Thrush, Bacterial Vaginosis or a UTI, you may wish to consider some of the following remedies which may help to restore balance:
- Probiotics targetted at rebalancing vaginal bacteria
- Herbal supplements which help to prevent excess candida (yeast) growth
- For UTI's, you must stay well hydrated and you can take/drink cranberry supplements to help relieve symptoms
Please ask in store for more information and products. If you think you may have an infection, see your GP for advice as you may need antibiotics. Other tips for maintaining a good balance include: drink plenty, avoid over washing - especially with soap products, avoid foods with high sugar or yeast conetnt to help prevent the growth of candida in the body.
